Sponsoring terror will lead Pak nowhere: Farooq

Former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah has urged Pakistan to stop sponsoring terrorism.

Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, urged Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism, saying it comes in the way of the nation progressing peacefully with its neighbour India.

Speaking in Poonch late Monday evening after a terror attack on a truck in Kathua which killed five Army men, Abdullah pointed out the importance of both countries working together to fight terrorism, echoing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's vision of friendly relations.

"It is a matter of peace. The neighbouring country should understand that progress is possible through friendship. If there is enmity, progress will be hampered," Abdullah said, referring to Pakistan's current situation due to its policies.

He urged Pakistan to see that supporting terrorism is pointless, stating, "It is important that they understand that sponsoring terrorism will not lead them anywhere."

While responding to a query on the inclusion of the Punjabi language in the curriculum of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said he has always supported

adding Punjabi to Jammu and Kashmir's school curriculum.

He also said that five languages—Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, and English—are already recognised and that Punjabi, spoken by many in the region, should also be included.

Abdullah highlighted his past efforts as a former chief minister to introduce education in these languages.

He promised to bring up the matter in Parliament, seeking support from the INDIA bloc.

During his visit to Poonch, Abdullah also offered prayers on the first day of Muharram, extending wishes for peace and unity among people.
