In a landmark achievement for the Indian Air Force, Saanya has become the first woman officer to earn the prestigious Cat-A Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) qualification, marking a significant milestone in the force’s aviation training history.
The Indian Air Force announced the achievement on Monday, describing it as a moment of pride and inspiration for aspiring women aviators across the country.
The Cat-A QFI qualification is regarded as one of the most demanding and respected instructor ratings in military aviation, awarded only to flying instructors who demonstrate exceptional professional competence, instructional ability and flying excellence. The qualification places instructors among the elite trainers responsible for shaping future generations of combat and transport pilots in the IAF.

Sqn Ldr Saanya’s accomplishment is being viewed as another major breakthrough for women in the defence sector, particularly in combat aviation and advanced pilot training roles, areas traditionally dominated by male officers.
