Srinagar on Wednesday witnessed the season’s coldest night, with temperatures settling at minus 6 degrees Celsius, officials said on Thursday. Additionally, a thin layer of fog was observed in many parts of Srinagar city, which further intensified the cold wave conditions.
Wednesday night was the coldest of the season so far in the city, with the night temperature being 4 degrees below the normal for this part of the season.
The intense cold conditions led to the freezing of the fringes of several water bodies, including the famous Dal Lake, while water supply lines also remained affected in many parts of the region.
The extended winter dry spell in the city and adjoining areas has led to an increase in ailments like coughs and the common cold. Doctors have also advised people to take necessary precautions and stay indoors while avoiding unnecessary travel during the evening and late-night hours.
