Stalin vs. Modi: War of Words escalates over central schemes

Tamil Nadu M K Stalin and Prime Minister Modi.

Amidst growing tensions between the state and central governments, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of merely affixing his 'sticker' on Central schemes that are predominantly funded by state governments upon implementation.

Speaking at a government function, Stalin criticized the central government's approach, emphasizing the crucial role of financial resources in state development. He likened depriving states of their financial resources to cutting off their oxygen supply, hindering their growth prospects.

He particularly slammed PM Modi for his absence during recent crises faced by Chennai and Thoothukudi, questioning his sudden appearance in the region for electoral purposes.

Stalin highlighted the lack of substantial financial support from the Union government to Tamil Nadu, citing instances such as the withholding of GST compensation and flood relief funds.

He also noted the delay in approving the Metro Rail Phase-II scheme for Chennai and the absence of allocated funds. The Chief Minister underscored the significant contributions made by the Tamil Nadu government to various central schemes, challenging PM Modi's claims of sole credit.

Responding to PM Modi's allegations of the DMK regime taking undue credit for central schemes, Stalin accused the Prime Minister of superficial gestures and electoral tactics.

He criticized Modi's Women's Day announcement of reducing cooking gas cylinder prices by Rs 100, labeling it as a mere poll gimmick. Regarding the construction of the Madurai AIIMS Hospital, Stalin expressed skepticism, alleging that the project would be stalled post-elections.

He criticized PM Modi's frequent visits to Tamil Nadu, dismissing them as mere election campaigns devoid of meaningful development initiatives. Stalin called for equitable treatment of all states by the central government, accusing it of undermining state autonomy and cultural identity.

He emphasized the importance of preserving linguistic and cultural diversity while fostering national development. In conclusion, Stalin reiterated the DMK's commitment to the welfare of the people, contrasting it with what he perceived as the central government's neglect of state interests and the welfare of its citizens.
