Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, is gearing up to launch operations in India within the next two months, following the recent approval of its operating license, according to sources familiar with the development.
As part of its rollout strategy, the company has finalised its pricing for the Indian market. Customers will need to pay approximately ₹33,000 for the Starlink satellite dish, while the monthly subscription for unlimited data access is expected to be priced at ₹3,000. To attract early adopters, Starlink plans to offer a one-month free trial with every device purchase, allowing users to evaluate the service before committing to the monthly plan.
Starlink’s arrival is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity in India’s remote and underserved regions, where traditional broadband infrastructure remains limited or non-existent. By using a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, the service aims to provide high-speed internet in areas previously beyond the reach of conventional terrestrial networks.

The pricing for the hardware in India mirrors that in neighbouring countries. In Bangladesh and Bhutan, for instance, the Starlink equipment is similarly priced at ₹33,000, indicating a regionally consistent pricing strategy.
Industry analysts believe Starlink’s entry into the Indian market could reshape the country’s telecommunications landscape. It has the potential to bolster digital infrastructure for rural communities, educational institutions, and remote businesses that have long struggled with poor connectivity.
Starlink’s launch also aligns with the Indian government’s ongoing efforts to promote digital inclusion and expand reliable internet access across its vast and diverse terrain. With traditional service providers often falling short in reaching remote areas, Starlink could offer a vital alternative for bridging the digital divide.
