PM Modi praises Balaghat woman in Mann ki Baat episode.

Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma on Sunday praised the “historic work” carried out by Suma Uike from Balaghat district, whose inspiring story of self-reliance featured in the 123rd episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio address, Mann ki Baat.

Speaking about the programme, Sharma said Uike’s success in mushroom cultivation and animal husbandry was not only admirable but also a matter of pride for the entire state.

“Today, I had the opportunity to listen to PM Modi’s Mann ki Baat. The Prime Minister highlighted the global recognition of yoga and the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. He also mentioned a woman from Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. She has done historic work in mushroom cultivation and animal husbandry. It is indeed a matter of pride for our state,” Sharma said.

In his radio address, Modi spoke of Uike’s journey as a shining example of self-confidence and self-reliance. He recounted how she became involved with a Self Help Group in Katangi block, Balaghat, and underwent training in mushroom farming and animal husbandry.

“These stories from across the country may have different faces, but they share the same glow – the glow of self-confidence and self-reliance,” Modi said.

“One such face is Suma Uike from Madhya Pradesh. Her efforts are truly commendable. After training, her income increased and she expanded her work. What began as a small initiative has now grown into ventures like the 'Didi Canteen' and a 'Thermal Therapy Centre'.”

The Prime Minister noted that Uike’s story is symbolic of a wider transformation led by women across the country. “In every corner of the nation, countless such women are changing their own destinies – and that of the country,” he said.

Uike’s recognition on Mann ki Baat places her among a growing list of grassroots changemakers highlighted by Modi in his efforts to spotlight local success stories and promote self-employment, women’s empowerment, and rural development.
