In recent developments, NCP MP Supriya Sule has raised questions about the timing of Sachin Waze’s allegations against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Jayant Patil. Sule’s comments come amid a political climate marked by upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra.
Sule expressed scepticism regarding the timing of the allegations, highlighting the coincidence of their emergence just as elections approached. Speaking to the media, Sule remarked, “First of all, which Jayant Patil is he referring to? I have no idea. Why should we assume this is about our Jayant Patil? Look at the timing of these allegations. Why are they surfacing just before the elections?”
She further suggested that the allegations might be strategically timed to influence the political landscape. “Jayant Patil is a significant political figure, and the BJP seems to be concerned about him,” Sule added, hinting at potential political motivations behind the timing of the claims.
The controversy began when Sachin Waze, a former Mumbai police officer currently embroiled in the Antilia bomb scare and Mansukh Hiren murder case, made serious allegations against Anil Deshmukh.
Waze claimed to have submitted evidence of alleged bribes taken by Deshmukh to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. According to Waze, the evidence includes details of money transactions handled by Deshmukh’s personal assistant.
Waze also named Jayant Patil in his letter to Fadnavis, adding another layer to the unfolding drama. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had previously charged Deshmukh with corruption, alleging that he had instructed police officers to collect Rs 100 crore monthly from bar owners. Deshmukh, who was arrested and later released on bail, has been at the centre of intense scrutiny and controversy.
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole has criticised the ongoing situation as a "drama," suggesting that it is a distraction from more pressing issues. Patole emphasised that once the Maha Vikas Aghadi forms the government, there will be a thorough investigation into the matter.
He also criticised Devendra Fadnavis for allegedly withholding evidence, arguing that as a public official, Fadnavis should disclose all relevant information to the public.
“I don’t want to delve into that now. The situation in the state has been chaotic for some time. Fadnavis claims to have both audio and video evidence but has kept it concealed. The people have a right to know the truth, but he seems intent on creating fear rather than clarity. Once Maha Vikas Aghadi takes charge, we will investigate the matter thoroughly and make everything clear,” Patole said.
As political tensions rise and the state prepares for elections, the controversy surrounding Sachin Waze’s allegations continues to stir debate and scrutiny.
