Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad has unveiled a series of art installations at Terminal 2, offering passengers a cultural experience while showcasing the traditions of Gujarat.
According to a statement by the airport management, the new installations reflect Gujarat’s role in the freedom movement, its cultural identity, and its festive spirit, giving travellers an immersive glimpse into the state’s heritage.
The artworks are built around three themes. The first, titled “Conversations of Freedom,” is located in the Departures check-in hall. Centred on Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, it highlights the spirit of India’s independence struggle.

Surrounding the leaders are depictions of Gujarat’s landscapes and symbols of its enduring legacy. Spanning 350 metres, the mural is made of metallic sheets with jaali-style illustrations of geographical and monumental elements, combined with three-dimensional sculptures in brass and copper.
The second theme, “Utsav Wall – Navratri and Uttarayan Celebrations,” is placed in the Baggage Claim Hall in Arrivals. This vibrant three-dimensional mural captures Gujarat’s celebrated festivals, with images of Garba dancers and soaring kites.
Constructed from modular sheet blocks layered with patterned brass strips, the installation greets passengers with a sense of cultural joy and pride.

The third installation, “Pragati-ni-Patang,” takes inspiration from Gujarat’s tradition of kite flying. Installed in the Domestic Arrival area of Terminal 2, it features life-sized bronze sculptures of children.
Acrylic kites, supported by concealed stainless steel structures and lit internally, symbolise hope, progress and the aspirations of future generations.
