Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, a three-time parliamentarian from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) representing the Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency, is poised for induction into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Union Cabinet, scheduled to be sworn in on Sunday, as disclosed by party leaders on Friday.
The TDP is expected to secure one Cabinet minister position along with two ministers of state posts in Modi’s Cabinet. However, the party had initially lobbied for a total of four berths – two Cabinet and two MoS posts.
Additionally, there is speculation that the party might also be offered the Deputy Speaker post in the Lok Sabha.
Rammohan Naidu, aged 37, started his political journey in 2012 following the death of his father, Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu, who had served as a Union Cabinet minister in the governments of Prime Ministers H.D. Deve Gowda and I.K. Gujral between 1996 and 1998, managing the portfolio of Rural Development and Employment.
With an engineering degree and a postgraduate qualification in business administration, Rammohan Naidu is renowned for his eloquent speech, making him a strong candidate for the Cabinet berth.
The two other TDP leaders under consideration for the Union Council of Ministers are Pemmasani Chandrasekhar from Guntur and Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy from Nellore.
Chandrasekhar, known for his extensive network among NRI investors, and Prabhakar Reddy, an influential figure in corporate circles, are expected to play crucial roles in attracting investments to Andhra Pradesh.
Should the TDP secure a fourth Cabinet position, Naidu might propose a Scheduled Caste MP from either D. Prasada Rao from Chittoor or T. Krishna Prasad from Bapatla.
The possibility of the Deputy Speaker position being offered to the TDP is also on the table. If this materialises, Naidu might recommend GM Harish Balayogi from Amalapura, son of former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi, who held the post during Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure.
Additionally, the Jana Sena Party (JSP) might see Vallabhaneni Bala Showry from Machilipatnam being accommodated in the Cabinet.
Among the BJP MPs from Andhra Pradesh, state unit president Daggubati Purandeshwari is also a strong contender for a ministerial role.
