Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday said the people of Bihar are eager to remove the current JD(U)-BJP government in the upcoming state Assembly elections, accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of acting in an “unconscious state.”
Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Yadav — who also serves as Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly — expressed strong confidence in his party’s prospects in the upcoming polls.
“Elections are going to be held in Bihar in the coming time. People are upset with the current government that has been in power for 20 years, people want change,” he said.
“The Chief Minister is in an unconscious state... We have new thinking. We have to create a new Bihar and take Bihar forward rapidly. We want to do positive politics, politics of issues,” Yadav added.
He said the RJD is fully prepared to challenge the ruling alliance and described the party’s vision as one rooted in “positive thinking and development.”
During the event, Yadav also launched a new party portal, Let’s Make Bihar Better, calling it an initiative to end “20 years of poor governance” under Nitish Kumar. He said the digital platform would allow citizens who believe in the RJD's ideology to voluntarily register and participate in efforts to build a “new Bihar.”
“Anyone who wants to work voluntarily for the party and its ideology — especially towards building a new Bihar — is welcome. The state still faces issues like poverty and low income, and with positive thinking, we have to move forward to shape a better Bihar,” he said.
Tejashwi further accused the BJP of lacking any real intention to conduct a caste census. “It is only due to the pressure mounted by the opposition that the caste census is happening,” he alleged.
The caste-based population survey in Bihar has been a politically sensitive issue, with opposition parties demanding it as a step towards social justice, while the BJP-led central government has remained non-committal.
Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor, the political strategist-turned-activist and founder of the Jan Suraaj party, has also appealed to the public to support an alternative political movement in Bihar.
“I am not asking for votes... I have walked to five thousand villages for the past 2.5 years, gathering many people and forming a party ‘Jan Suraaj’,” Kishor said. “You have seen the rule of Lalu Prasad Yadav, PM Modi, Nitish Kumar... Now, there should be people’s rule — Jan Suraaj — in Bihar,” he added.
