Bihar’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Tejashwi Yadav, has fiercely criticised the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, over recent allegations of financial irregularities during the Grand Alliance government’s tenure.
Sinha had accused Yadav of being involved in a corruption scandal related to the Road Construction Department, which Yadav promptly rejected and condemned.
The verbal altercation has intensified the political discourse in Bihar, as both parties continue to target each other in the run-up to future elections.
Yadav, addressing the accusations, insisted that if he had indeed committed any wrongdoing, the BJP-led government should take appropriate action against him. He also warned that those making baseless claims would eventually face consequences.
His statement further highlighted his frustration with the ongoing rivalry within the NDA, accusing its leaders of competing to malign him and his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, in the media.
Yadav’s defence underscores the tense political climate in the state, with both sides engaging in a war of words and allegations.
The Leader of the Opposition did not stop at dismissing Sinha's claims but also took a jab at his influence within his own party. Despite holding the position of Deputy Chief Minister, Yadav argued that Sinha lacked substantial authority within both his party, the BJP, and the state government.
Yadav sarcastically remarked that Sinha, perhaps, could hardly believe he had risen to such a position.
He added that influential figures such as Samrat Choudhary and even Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did not appear to value Sinha’s role in the government, further emphasising the internal conflicts within the ruling alliance.
One of the key issues that have raised questions regarding the Bihar government's leadership is the growing lawlessness in the state. Yadav pointed out the recent incident involving Bhagalpur MP, Ajay Mandal, who allegedly assaulted a local journalist.
He criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s silence on the matter, accusing him of being a passive observer when serious incidents such as the 200 rounds of gunfire in Mokama occurred.
The Leader of the Opposition also raised alarm over the increasing crime rate in Bihar, attributing it to a lack of accountability within the government and its ministers.
The allegations against Yadav, made by Deputy Chief Minister Sinha, revolve around financial irregularities amounting to ₹26.16 crores in the Road Construction Department.
These irregularities are allegedly linked to the construction of three roads under the Path Pramandal Gaya project, for which Yadav had held responsibility as Deputy Chief Minister.
The projects in question include the construction of roads connecting Wajirganj-Tapovan Path, Jamua-Sevatar Path, and Bhinds-Chamandih Path. The accusations have added fuel to the ongoing political war, with both sides exchanging barbs over governance and corruption claims.
