“We need to speak up for our country, for our response, and to give the world the message that we will not be silenced by terrorism,” said Congress MP Shashi Tharoor as he led an all-party parliamentary delegation on a diplomatic outreach mission to five countries, including the United States, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia. The delegation departed from Delhi early on Saturday under the banner of Operation Sindoor, aiming to present a united Indian voice against terrorism and global indifference.
The visit is a strategic attempt to reaffirm India’s stance and strengthen international cooperation amid a challenging global environment. Speaking to the media at Delhi airport, Tharoor emphasised the symbolic nature of the mission. “We don't want the world to look away either. We don't want indifference to triumph over the truth. It's a mission of peace, a mission of hope,” he stated.
The delegation’s itinerary includes a stop in New York, where members will visit the 9/11 Memorial. Tharoor noted this would serve as a poignant reminder that India, like the United States, has suffered from terrorist attacks. The group will also attend Independence Day celebrations in Guyana and meet government officials in other Latin American countries.

The team features parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, including BJP MPs Tejasvi Surya, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Shashank Mani Tripathi, LJP’s Shambhavi Choudhary, TDP’s GM Harish Balayogi, Shiv Sena’s Milind Deora, JMM’s Sarfaraz Ahmad, and former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Despite the outward show of unity, the delegation’s leadership sparked controversy within the Congress. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh revealed that the party had proposed four alternative names for the leadership post. Tharoor’s appointment, announced unilaterally by the government, blindsided the party.
Nonetheless, Tharoor reiterated the importance of a common voice. “It’s good to have everyone on the same page, and that’s what the government’s briefing was all about. We are prepared, everyone understands the situation, and we are heading in that spirit. We will speak with one voice.”
