The Mumbai Police have launched an investigation following a threat call warning of a possible terrorist attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft ahead of his official visit abroad.
The call, received at the Mumbai Police Control Room on 11 February, claimed that terrorists might target the aircraft.
Upon receiving the alert, the police immediately informed relevant security agencies and initiated an investigation to assess the credibility of the threat before the Prime Minister’s departure.
“In a call received at the Mumbai Police Control Room, the caller warned that terrorists might target PM Modi’s aircraft as he was departing for an official visit abroad. Given the seriousness of the threat, the police immediately alerted other security agencies and launched an investigation,” the Mumbai Police said in a statement.
Following an extensive inquiry, authorities traced the call and detained the individual responsible in the Chembur area of Mumbai. The police later confirmed that the caller is mentally ill.

Prime Minister Modi departed from New Delhi on 10 February for a four-day visit to France and the United States. He arrived in Paris on Tuesday, where he was warmly received by the Indian diaspora.
During his visit, Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron and co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit as well as the 14th India-France CEOs Forum.
Following his engagements in Paris, the Prime Minister visited Marseille, where he paid tribute to freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who had attempted a daring escape from British custody at the city’s port.
Modi is scheduled to travel to the United States, where he will meet President Donald Trump at the White House.
He will be the fourth world leader to visit Trump following the return of the former US President, after the prime ministers of Israel and Japan, and the King of Jordan.
