Recent terror attacks in Jammu have been widely disseminated through social media platforms like Telegram and X by individuals operating accounts from outside India, according to a detailed analysis by Indian security agencies.

A terror group known as ‘Kashmir Tigers’ has claimed responsibility for the attacks, sharing almost real-time updates through Telegram channels and posts on X. These channels have been used to intimidate the local population and discuss the “revival of resistance.”

In response, most of these social media accounts have been blocked in the past few days at the request of the government. Indian security agencies have closely examined two specific terror attacks: one on July 8 in Kathua and another on July 14 in Doda.

The Kashmir Tigers, reportedly linked to the Pakistan-based terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), have claimed responsibility for both the Kathua and Doda attacks.

Over 30 social media accounts have been actively sharing details and videos related to these incidents, amplifying the messages of the Kashmir Tigers. These accounts have been traced to locations outside India.

“There is coordination between these handles, indicating a larger group working on social media amplification,” said a source.

The Kashmir Tigers manage two Telegram channels (names withheld for security reasons) where they frequently post detailed claims and updates about their attacks.

These open channels allow anyone with the Telegram app to access information. “Kashmir Tigers use these platforms as crucial channels to disseminate information about themselves,” the analysis reveals.

Within India, the recent terrorist attacks in Kathua and Doda have sparked strong negative sentiments among the public due to the tragic loss of Indian Army personnel. These incidents have been widely discussed on social media.

Experts believe that terrorists are forming shadow groups to create confusion and avoid being classified as terror organisations. By changing their names, these groups can continue to carry out attacks in the region.

Furthermore, they are employing high-tech tools and social media to attract youth, using highly effective weapons to stir sentiments and glorify their activities in the region.
