The Supreme Court has stayed the proceedings before a special court against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and Tamil Nadu Minister I Periyasamy and his family members in a ₹2.1 crore disproportionate assets case.
A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and AG Masih on August 18 also issued notice in the matter.
"There shall be a stay of proceedings in... pending before the Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Special Judge for Prevention of Corruption Act Cases, Dindigul," the bench said.

This decision comes after Periyasamy appealed a Madras High Court verdict from April 28. The high court had ordered the special court to frame charges against the minister and his family members, reversing an earlier decision to discharge them. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) had challenged their initial discharge by filing petitions with the high court in 2018.
Periyasamy is alleged to have accumulated wealth of ₹2.1 crore in his and his family members' names — his wife P Suseela and sons P Sentilkumar and P Prabhu — that was disproportionate to his known sources of income. The alleged accumulation occurred between 2006 and 2010 when he served as a minister. Periyasamy currently holds the portfolios for Rural Development, Panchayats, and Panchayat Unions in the DMK government.
