The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday relaunched its MyCall mobile application, allowing telecom subscribers to rate their voice call experience in real time and report network-related issues directly to service providers.

The revamped app enables users to provide instant feedback on voice calls using a one-to-five-star rating and report problems such as call drops, echo, voice breaking, audio delay, one-way audio, cross-connections and delayed call connections.

According to TRAI, the application is designed to bridge the gap between technical network performance and consumers' actual calling experience. The anonymised feedback will be shared with telecom service providers (TSPs) and the regulator, helping identify network deficiencies and improve service quality.

Launching the app, TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said voice calls remain the most basic telecom service for India's more than 1.3 billion telecom subscribers, making consumer feedback an important indicator of network performance.

He said the data collected through the app would complement TRAI's existing Quality of Service (QoS) monitoring framework, which includes regulatory standards, periodic operator reports and independent drive tests. The app adds a Quality of Experience (QoE) dimension by capturing users' real-world experiences.

Lahoti stressed that participation is entirely voluntary and clarified that TRAI has no plans to make the app mandatory or integrate it into phone-calling applications.

He also said feedback received through MyCall would not, by itself, trigger punitive action against telecom operators. Instead, it would be used alongside technical data collected through network monitoring and drive tests to identify problem areas and seek corrective action from service providers.

The TRAI chief noted that MyCall joins the regulator's other consumer-focused applications, including MySpeed, which measures broadband performance, and the TRAI DND app for reporting unsolicited commercial communications.

The TRAI MyCall app is currently available for Android users through the Google Play Store.
