Three members of a family, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed on Thursday morning after their motorcycle collided head-on with a trailer, police said.
The accident occurred on the Maharajganj–Nichlaul state highway near Baluhighush village in Maharajganj when the couple was taking their sick daughter to a hospital.

Police said the impact was severe; 25-year-old Saleha Khatoon and her daughter Shahzadi (7) were run over by the trailer, while Naushad (28) was flung several feet away. After being alerted, police rushed to the scene and took the victims to a hospital, where doctors declared all three dead.
Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding may have caused the accident. The trailer driver has been detained and further investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident in Kushinagar, one person was killed and another critically injured after a speeding dumper rammed into their motorcycle, police said on Thursday. The accident took place at around 11 pm on Wednesday near Semra village along the Hata–Kaptanganj road, when the victims were returning home from a market.

According to police, Chandrashekhar Gond (28) and his friend Satyendra Prasad (25), residents of Malukhi village under Kaptanganj police station limits, were riding back when a soil-laden dumper coming from the opposite direction hit their bike.

Both sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Kaptanganj Community Health Centre with help from locals. Due to their critical condition, they were referred to a hospital in Gorakhpur.

Chandrashekhar later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Satyendra remains in critical condition. The dumper driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
