On the 33rd death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to social media to remember his father, expressing that his father's dreams are now his own.
Sharing a cherished childhood photograph where Rajiv Gandhi is seen with his hand on Rahul's shoulders, Rahul reflected on the profound influence of his father's aspirations.
In a heartfelt post, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Father, Your dreams, my dreams, Your aspirations, my responsibilities. Your memories, today and always, always in my heart.” This sentiment encapsulates the enduring connection between father and son, highlighting the legacy of Rajiv Gandhi's vision and values.
Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi at Veer Bhumi in Delhi.
The sombre occasion was marked by tributes from other prominent Congress leaders like P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot, who also honoured the memory of the former prime minister.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his respects to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, posting on social media, “On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.” This acknowledgment underscores the bipartisan recognition of Rajiv Gandhi's contributions to Indian politics.
Rajiv Gandhi's tenure as Prime Minister began in 1984, succeeding his mother, the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, after her assassination. He assumed office at the age of 40, becoming India’s youngest Prime Minister at the time. Serving until December 2, 1989, Rajiv Gandhi's leadership left a lasting impact on the nation.
Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi's life was tragically cut short when he was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during an election rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, on May 21, 1991. His untimely death shook the nation and marked the end of an era in Indian politics, but his legacy continues to inspire generations.
