Purvottar Adi Bazar promotes North East artisanship.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently inaugurated the Purvottar Adi Bazar at the Purbasa Urban Hut Complex in Agartala. The event aims to promote the rich culture, heritage, and craftsmanship of artisans from the North Eastern region.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of the event in supporting local handicrafts. “Purvottar Adi Bazar is a platform for artisans of Tripura and the North Eastern region to showcase their culture and artistic talents. This initiative will play a crucial role in the growth of handicrafts in the area,” he said.

The Purvottar Adi Bazar is a collaborative effort between the Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) and Tripura Markfed, under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The event, which runs until 27 January, features 32 stalls displaying tribal products from across the North East, including Tripura.

During his address, Saha emphasised the state government’s commitment to the development of tribal communities.

He noted that various initiatives, supported by financial aid from the World Bank, are being implemented to improve the socio-economic conditions of the Janajati population.

He pointed out the recent recognition of Tripura’s traditional Risa, Pachra, and Matabari Pera with the GI tag, which has brought national attention to the state’s cultural heritage.

Additionally, he remarked on the rise in women-led self-help groups during the current administration, attributing it to focused developmental efforts.

Saha also praised the impact of the Prime Minister’s Act East Policy, stating that it has significantly contributed to the economic and overall progress of the North Eastern states.

He urged for better promotion and improved packaging of local artisanal products to increase their market appeal.

Prominent figures, including Minister of Cooperation Shukla Charan Noatia, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Tripura Markfed chairman Abhijit Deb, and TRIFED chairman Ramsin Rathod, were present at the event.

The Chief Minister also participated in the ‘bhoomi pujan’ ceremony for a 200-bed integrated drug de-addiction centre at Bishramganj in the Sepahijala district, laying the foundation stone for the facility.
