In a letter to his party members on Sunday, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticised his party's main rival, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), for renewing its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Stalin alleged that 'true' AIADMK workers were dissatisfied with the renewed partnership.
The Chief Minister accused the BJP, the ruling party at the Centre, of 'betraying Tamil Nadu.' Despite this, he claimed that AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami had re-established the alliance with the BJP for the 2026 Assembly elections and was now 'spreading lies' during his current statewide campaign.
Stalin's letter to party members was issued ahead of the seventh death anniversary of his father and former Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi. In the letter, he urged DMK workers and supporters to uphold the pro-Tamil and pro-Tamil Nadu values championed by his father. He called on them to work for the party's success in the upcoming state elections, aiming for a seventh term in power.
The Chief Minister also referenced the BJP's alleged actions in non-BJP-ruled states, where he claimed the party was working against elected governments through the actions of their appointed governors. He highlighted that the DMK government had successfully undertaken a legal battle to ensure state bills were approved by the governor.

Stalin charged that 'at a time when such battles have to be taken forward with more vigour, the AIADMK, which has no concern for Tamil Nadu, has aligned with the BJP which betrays the state.' He further alleged that Palaniswami, whom he described as lacking 'any basic principles,' had 'went all the way to Delhi, knelt before the BJP and forged an alliance,' a move that he claimed had made even 'true AIADMK worker' unhappy.
Stalin also used the opportunity to reflect on the pro-people and pro-language initiatives of his father's past governments. He asserted that his current government was following a similar path to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu and its people. The DMK leader also announced that a peace march would be held in Chennai on August 7, Karunanidhi's seventh death anniversary, to honor the Dravidian stalwart at his Marina memorial. He encouraged party workers in other districts to pay their respects locally.
