US President Donald Trump has appointed Sergio Gor, the White House personnel director, as the next ambassador to India and special envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
Announcing the decision on Friday, Trump praised Gor as a trusted aide and long-time ally. “I am pleased to announce that I am promoting Sergio Gor to be our next United States Ambassador to the Republic of India, and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Sergio and his team have hired nearly 4,000 America First Patriots across every Department of our Federal Government in record time — Our Departments and Agencies are over 95% filled,” Trump added.
Gor, who co-founded Winning Team Publishing with Donald Trump Jr., has been closely involved in Trump family ventures. He has overseen the publication of two of Trump’s books and helped run one of the largest Super PACs backing Trump’s campaigns.
“Sergio is a great friend, who has been at my side for many years. He worked on my historic presidential campaigns, published my best-selling books, and ran one of the biggest Super PACs, which supported our movement,” Trump said. He stressed that Gor’s appointment was vital for the region. “For the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us make America great again. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. Congratulations Sergio!”

Following the announcement, Gor expressed his gratitude and described the appointment as the greatest honour of his career. “Nothing has made me prouder than to serve the American people through the GREAT work of this Administration!” Gor posted on X. “It will be the honour of my life to represent the United States!”
He thanked Trump for his “incredible trust and confidence” and called the appointment a milestone. Gor highlighted the administration’s accomplishments, citing historic results in “making America great again” and praising the team’s efforts.
As personnel director, Gor has overseen the vetting of senior government officials, including the short-lived nomination of tech billionaire Jared Isaacman to lead NASA, a proposal withdrawn in June.
Beyond politics, Gor has maintained close ties with the Trump family through Winning Team Publishing, which produced Trump’s books. He will continue in his White House role until confirmed by the Senate.
Gor will succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as ambassador from May 11, 2023, until January 20, 2025. Before Garcetti, Kenneth Juster held the post from November 23, 2017, to January 20, 2021.
Since Garcetti’s exit, interim Charge d’Affaires Jorgan K Andrews has been leading the US Embassy in India, assuming the role on January 20, 2025.
