The Congress party took a critical stance against the Modi government, with Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh mocking US President Donald Trump’s claim that he halted Operation Sindoor through trade and tariff measures, describing it as Trump reaching “the half-century mark” with this assertion.

Ramesh suggested that it would not be long before Trump “scores a century” with such claims. He made these remarks in a post on X, where he also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his diplomatic engagements the previous day.

Ramesh stated, “He [Modi] spent all day yesterday talking to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and sending message after message of praise and admiration to President Trump.” He added, “He did not, of course, forget to speak to the man who had unleashed the genocide on Gaza - the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu - also during this time.”

Ramesh further highlighted Trump’s meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Thursday, noting that Trump “reached the half-century mark on his claim that he stopped Operation Sindoor using trade and tariffs as his brahmastra.”

He emphasised, “In this, President Trump has been consistent, insistent, and persistent. And it won't be long before he scores a century.” Ramesh also shared a video clip of Trump’s remarks, claiming he stopped the India-Pakistan conflict.

Last month, during his address to world leaders from the UN podium, Trump reiterated his claim of having intervened to stop the conflict between India and Pakistan.

However, India has consistently maintained that the cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was achieved through direct negotiations between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two countries’ militaries, independent of external influence.
