Tushar Mehta reappointed Solicitor General for 3 years

Mehta has been serving as Solicitor General since October 10, 2018. He was earlier re-appointed with effect from July 1, 2023, for a term that was to run till June 30, 2026.The ACC has also approved the re-appointment of five Additional Solicitors General for India in the Supreme Court.

Tushar Mehta has been re appointed as Solicitor General by Appointments Committee of Cabinet for 3 years


The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta as Solicitor General for India in the Supreme Court for a further term of three years. The SGI is the second-highest law officer of the country,

 

As per an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on June 20, Mehta’s fresh term will take effect from July 1, 2026.The appointment will be for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

 

Mehta has been serving as Solicitor General since October 10, 2018. He was earlier re-appointed with effect from July 1, 2023, for a term that was to run till June 30, 2026.The ACC has also approved the re-appointment of five Additional Solicitors General for India in the Supreme Court.

 

Senior Advocates Vikramjit Banerjee and KM Nataraj have been re-appointed as ASGs with effect from July 1, 2026.Senior Advocates Suryaprakash V Raju, N Venkataraman and Aishwarya Bhati have been re-appointed with effect from June 30, 2026.

 

Their appointments will also be for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.Banerjee was first appointed as ASG for the Supreme Court on March 5, 2018. He was re-appointed with effect from July 1, 2023.

 

Nataraj was appointed as ASG on January 14, 2019. He too was re-appointed with effect from July 1, 2023.Raju, Venkataraman and Bhati were first appointed as ASGs for the Supreme Court on June 30, 2020. They were re-appointed with effect from June 30, 2023.

 

The ACC has also cleared the re-appointment of Senior Advocate Chetan Sharma as ASG for the Delhi High Court.Sharma has been given a further term of six months with effect from July 1, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.Sharma was first appointed as ASG for the Delhi High Court on July 1, 2020. He was re-appointed with effect from July 1, 2023, for a term that was to end on June 30, 2026.
