Family members and relatives perform the last rites of former model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat in Bhopal on Sunday following a second autopsy ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The last rites of former model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma were performed in Bhopal on Sunday evening, hours after a second post-mortem examination was conducted at AIIMS Bhopal following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Family members said the cremation took place at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat in the city, with Twisha’s brother performing the final rites.

The second autopsy was carried out by a team of senior doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, amid mounting demands from the family for greater transparency in the investigation into her death.

The case has drawn national attention after the Supreme Court reportedly took suo motu cognisance of the matter, while the High Court directed a fresh medical examination following concerns raised over the initial post-mortem.

Speaking to reporters, Twisha’s cousin Ashish Sharma said the family had initially considered performing the last rites in Delhi but later decided against it due to logistical and medical concerns.

“We wanted to perform the last rites in Delhi, but I think it’s probably impractical in this heat to travel so far. Due to medical reasons, it’s been decided to perform her last rites in Bhopal,” he said.

Earlier, members of the family had alleged shortcomings in the first post-mortem examination and expressed hope that the second autopsy would help clarify unanswered questions surrounding the case.

“There were a lot of shortcomings in the first post-mortem, and we have a lot of hope with the second one that will bring clarity on the things that were not there in the first one,” a family member had said.

The relative also welcomed judicial intervention in the matter, saying the High Court’s decision to order a second autopsy and the Supreme Court’s reported cognisance had strengthened the family’s confidence in the investigation process.

The circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death have triggered widespread public attention and online reactions over the past several days, with calls for a transparent inquiry and accountability.

Officials have not yet publicly commented on the findings of the second post-mortem examination.
