Samarth Singh, the absconding husband of Twisha Sharma, who was allegedly harassed for dowry and died last week in Madhya Pradesh, at her in-laws’ home, has filed a bail application in the Jabalpur High Court.
A magistrate court had earlier rejected Samarth’s anticipatory bail application while granting it to his mother, Giribala Singh, a retired district sessions judge and accused in the case.
Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal's Katara Hills area on May 12. The family of the 33-year-old model turned actor accused her in-laws of pushing their daughter to her death. The Singhs claim she was addicted to drugs.
Police registered an FIR under Sections 80(2), 85, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita along with relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, naming Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh.
The police have announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to Samarth Singh's arrest and also approached the court for the revocation of his passport.
Anurag Srivastava, lawyer of the victim's family, said, "We made two prayers yesterday, and the court has accepted one. The court said that preservation is necessary. If the court is saying this, then the judge must also have surely understood the need for it. This report was also submitted by the police for the first time yesterday, stating that the body needs to be preserved at a temperature 200 times lower than minus 4 degrees, that is, at minus 80 degrees Celsius. The family had also demanded that the second post-mortem be conducted at AIIMS Delhi. However, the court has rejected this request, stating that only the places which fall within its local jurisdiction can be considered, and AIIMS Delhi is outside its territorial jurisdiction."
