Two books by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta- The Bench, the Bar and the Bizarre and The Lawful and the Awful- were Sunday launched at a special event at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant presided over the book launch event that was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. At the launch of Tushar Mehta's two books in Delhi, CJI Surya Kant praised its courtroom humour and detail. He said the writing shows law is shaped not only by judgments but also by human drama and wit.
According to the publisher, the books promises sharp insights, fascinating anecdotes, and an engaging look into the many shades of the legal world. The remarks were made during the launch of Mehta's books -- The Bench, the Bar, & the Bizarre and The Lawful and the Awful -- at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and members of the legal fraternity. Addressing the event, CJI Surya Kant said that reading these two books back-to-back is like bingeing a courtroom drama that accidentally wandered into a stand-up special.
“Who could have guessed that dusty case files, legal jargon, and solemn judicial proceedings could turn into fodder for hilarity? Yet, here we are, grinning from ear to ear, as if we have just stumbled across a Supreme Court ruling authored by Mark Twain,” he remarked. Shah said that ‘The Bench, the Bar, and the Bizarre’ looks like a curious person.
“In a way, from a literary point of view, we can also get out of the serious environment of the court. The Bench, the Bar, and the Bizarre. This book looks like a curious person. In this, about AI and modern techniques, what kind of challenges are going to come in the future have been tried to explain with concrete examples.”
Attorney General for India, R Venkataramani, who was also present during the launch event, lauded the efforts of SG Mehta into writing the two books.“I wonder how studiously and courageously Tushar Bhai plunged into these facets which are deeply relevant for understanding the hidden dimensions of doing justice and chronicled carefully, chosen stories of law and justice to share with us, repeats into human nature in both his exalted and ridiculous manifestations,” he added.
