Two Chinese nationals were on Thursday apprehended by police at the Indo-Nepal border for allegedly attempting to cross into India illegally.

The arrest took place at the Sonouli transit point, where the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) intercepted the trio during a routine check.

The arrested individuals, identified as Yang Meng Meng (37) and Gu Baoqiang (35) from the People's Republic of China, were found wandering in the Sonauli area late last night.

Maharajganj Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Kumar Singh confirmed their arrest, stating that both men possessed Chinese passports but lacked valid Indian visas and other necessary documentation.

Accompanying the Chinese nationals was a Tibetan refugee, Lobsang Jamyang (44), who had allegedly facilitated their illegal entry from Nepal.

Singh revealed that Jamyang had created counterfeit Indian Aadhaar cards for both Chinese citizens and had assumed responsibility for their transport from Kathmandu to Gorakhpur.

Unfortunately for them, the trio could not evade the security agencies and were apprehended by SSB personnel while attempting to enter India.

During questioning, it was noted that neither of the Chinese nationals could present valid visas.

Meanwhile, the Tibetan refugee was discovered to possess an Indian Aadhaar card and a PAN card linked to an Indian address.

The police have registered a case against the Chinese nationals under various legal provisions, including Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.

Additionally, the Tibetan individual faces charges under relevant laws at the local Sonauli police station. The motive behind their illegal crossing remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
