Delhi Police have identified four accused in connection with the alleged molestation and racial abuse of two women from the Northeast near Nehru Place in southeast Delhi, officials said on Monday.
The incident allegedly took place during the early hours of May 10 near Eros Hotel, where the women said they were having tea when they were subjected to catcalling and racist remarks by a group of men.
According to police, the altercation later turned violent, with the women alleging physical assault, molestation and tearing of clothes.
One of the complainants alleged that she was molested during the confrontation, while the other claimed she was attacked with a bamboo stick when they attempted to leave the area.
Police said a PCR call regarding women in distress was received at Kalkaji police station around 7 am on May 10, following which officers reached the tea stall near the hotel.
“Preliminary enquiry revealed that the victims were subjected to derogatory remarks and abuses which led to a physical altercation amongst the victims and accused,” a senior police officer said.

The women also alleged that the accused blocked their path, threatened them and warned them against reporting the incident.
Both complainants were taken to AIIMS for medical examination after the police intervention.
Investigators said CCTV footage from nearby areas was examined and several witnesses questioned before four main accused were identified.
“Multiple police teams are conducting raids to places and addresses linked to these accused to arrest them,” Delhi Police said.
An FIR has been registered at Kalkaji police station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to voluntarily causing hurt, assault on a woman with intent to outrage modesty, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, stalking and common intention.
Police said the women informed investigators that they would be able to identify the accused during further proceedings.
During the course of the investigation, eight persons, including witnesses and passersby, were questioned before the accused were identified. No arrests had been made till Monday evening.
The incident has once again drawn attention to allegations of racial discrimination and harassment faced by people from the Northeast in metropolitan cities, particularly women.
