India stormed into the semi-finals of the 2025 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with a resounding eight-wicket win over Bangladesh at the Bayuemas Oval on Sunday. With this victory, India maintained its unbeaten run in the tournament, outclassing their opponents in all departments of the game.
Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma was the star with the ball, taking three wickets for just 15 runs. Her exceptional spell helped India restrict Bangladesh to a meagre total of 64/8 in their 20 overs.
Vaishnavi's performance was backed by strong support from G Trisha, Shabnam Shakil, and Joshitha VJ, who each picked up a wicket to further tighten India's grip on the match.
The match was initially threatened by rain, which had already caused the abandonment of the Sri Lanka-Scotland match earlier in the day. However, the weather cleared, allowing the game to go ahead as planned.
Bangladesh were asked to bat first, but they found themselves under immediate pressure. By the end of the tenth over, Bangladesh were in dire straits at 23/5, thanks to brilliant bowling and fielding by India.
The only resistance came from Bangladesh’s captain Sumaiya Akter, who remained unbeaten on 21, and Jannatul Maoua, who scored 14. Together, they managed to form a 31-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
However, Vaishnavi’s timely breakthroughs, including the dismissals of Jannatul and Sadia Akter in the 17th over, ensured that Bangladesh would not recover. They finished their innings at a modest 64/8, leaving India with a comfortable target to chase.
India’s chase was led by the explosive batting of G Trisha, who blazed her way to 40 runs off 31 balls, including eight boundaries. Trisha’s aggressive stroke play set the tone for the chase, and India reached 66/2 in just 7.1 overs, sealing the victory in style.
Despite losing G Kamalini early for three runs, Trisha’s quick-fire knock kept the chase on track, hitting boundaries all around the ground, particularly on the leg-side and down the ground.
Although Trisha was dismissed just four runs short of the target, the job was done. Sanika Chalke (11 not out) and captain Niki Prasad (five not out) ensured that India reached the target with ease, securing the eight-wicket win.
This dominant performance has propelled India into the semi-finals, where they will face Scotland in their final Super Six game on Tuesday. With a clinical all-round performance, India has sent a strong message to the other teams in the tournament, as they continue to look formidable on their quest for the title.
