The last rites for the Udaipur knife attack victim, a class 10 student, were performed on Tuesday amid heightened security in the district. The young student, who was stabbed by a schoolmate on August 16, succumbed to his injuries three days later.
In response to the tragedy, Rajasthan BJP MLA Tarachand Jain has called for calm and assured the victim's family of full security. Jain also mentioned that the government has promised the family 51 lakh rupees in compensation, and the case will be fast-tracked through the courts.
The victim’s father has expressed deep sorrow and anger, insisting that the attack was meticulously planned. He has demanded that the perpetrators receive severe punishment, stating, “My son is gone, and justice must be served. The murder was fully planned, and the culprits should face strict consequences.”
Community members have criticised the compensation amount and have called for the suspension of the school administration, arguing that the current juvenile justice system is inadequate for such severe crimes.
In response to the incident, the Rajasthan Congress has formed a four-member committee to investigate the case. This committee, which includes Congress MP Bhajanlal Jatav and other notable leaders, will also engage with the victim’s family to address their concerns.
Protests erupted following the incident, with some demonstrators setting vehicles on fire and vandalising shops. To manage the unrest, the Udaipur district administration imposed restrictions and temporarily shut down internet services in the area.
