On Saturday, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition of a house belonging to a Class X student accused of attacking a classmate. The incident, which triggered violence in the city, led to the house being razed with a bulldozer.
The property, reportedly built on forest land, was evacuated before the demolition began. Officials cut off the electricity supply and pasted a notice on the house to inform the occupants.
The demolition started around noon, with both the Municipal Corporation and the Forest Department overseeing the operation. Drones were used to monitor the process.
According to the Forest Department, the house was constructed illegally on their land. The structure included three rooms, a kitchen, and a shop in the basement, all of which were demolished.
Forest officials stated that a notice to vacate the property had been issued six months ago, but the family ignored it. The demolition followed a violent incident that occurred on Friday.
A Class X student attacked his classmate with a knife at a government school, sparking unrest in the city. In response, an angry mob set fire to several cars and engaged in stone-pelting. Tensions escalated as the students involved were from different communities.
To control the situation, a large police force was deployed. Officers used lathi-charges to disperse the crowd and enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha (BNSS).
District Education Officer Lokesh Bharti reported that the altercation happened during post-lunch hours at a government school in the Bhatiyani Chohatta area. One student stabbed another on the thigh with a knife.
Doctors at MB Hospital confirmed that the injured student's condition is stable. In response to the situation, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has sent a team of specialist doctors to Udaipur, including a neuro physician, neurosurgeon, nephrologist, and other experts, to assist with the student's treatment.
