ULFA-I Bomb Claims In Assam Lead To Extensive Police Operations.

The banned ULFA(I) claimed on Thursday that they have planted bombs at 24 locations across Assam, including eight in the capital city, Guwahati. This announcement triggered a swift response from the security forces, who deployed teams to search for explosives.

Despite these efforts, no bombs have been found yet, though some materials resembling bombs have been discovered in certain areas. The terror outfit, ULFA(I), cited a "technical failure" as the reason why the bombs did not detonate and has asked the public to cooperate in defusing them.

In an email sent to various media outlets, including PTI, ULFA(I) provided a detailed list of 19 specific locations where they claimed to have planted bombs. They also mentioned that the exact locations of five additional bombs could not be identified. This claim has caused widespread alarm across the state, leading to an intensive search operation by the police and bomb disposal squads.

A senior officer from Assam Police headquarters confirmed that all the Superintendents of Police (SPs) in the affected districts have been alerted. The police have been instructed to conduct thorough searches in the areas mentioned by ULFA(I).

To aid in these efforts, bomb disposal squads, metal detectors, and sniffer dogs have been dispatched to the identified locations. However, so far, no bombs have been recovered, and the situation remains tense.

Local police officials in districts such as Nagaon, Lakhimpur, and Sivasagar have reported finding some "bomb-like materials" at the specified locations. However, these materials have not yet been confirmed as actual explosives.

In Guwahati, eight locations were mentioned in the ULFA(I) email. These include a field at Last Gate in Dispur, which is near the official residences of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other ministers.

Other locations include Satgaon Road near the Army cantonment in Narengi, as well as spots in Ashram Road, Panbazar, Jorabat, Bhetapara, Maligaon, and Rajgarh.

Besides Guwahati, ULFA(I) also named several other locations in districts such as Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and Golaghat.

The police have taken the threat seriously and have closed all roads in and around the mentioned areas. Senior police officials are personally overseeing the search operations to ensure the safety of the public.

The situation is being closely monitored, and security forces continue to search the areas identified by ULFA(I) in their email. The authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the ongoing operations. The entire state remains on high alert as the police work to secure the areas and ensure that no explosives are present.
