Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Uttar Pradesh Police have been placed on high alert.
The directive came from the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar, who has urged all law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly in sensitive and border districts.
Security arrangements have been intensified across the state, with a special focus on areas adjoining Nepal. All forms of transport—rail, road, and air—are now under close scrutiny to identify any suspicious movements or potential threats.
Police officials have also been instructed to keep a tight watch on individuals previously under surveillance for anti-social or anti-national activities.
Additional security has been deployed at public transit hubs such as bus terminals and railway stations. Instructions have also been issued to ensure the safety of tourists, particularly foreign nationals, who may be at risk in the wake of heightened tensions.
In light of the threat, security has been reinforced at major religious and heritage sites including Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, and the Taj Mahal. Officers have been asked to adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while maintaining a visible presence at these locations to deter any possible threat.
Speaking on the incident, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly act” and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He added that stringent measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure justice for the victims.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited Srinagar on Tuesday, paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack by laying a wreath at a solemn ceremony held outside the Police Control Room.
Shah also chaired a high-level security meeting with intelligence and enforcement agencies to review the situation.
In a statement shared on social media, Shah said, “Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased. Those involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences.”
He also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been briefed on the developments and that coordinated efforts were being made to identify and apprehend those responsible.
