UPSC Seeks Cancellation of Puja Khedkar’s IAS Candidature.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has recently taken a significant step in its efforts to maintain the integrity of its examination process. The commission has filed a case against Puja Khedkar, a probationary IAS officer, accusing her of committing fraud to pass the civil services exam. This case has drawn considerable attention due to its implications for the examination's credibility and the actions the UPSC has taken in response.

Puja Khedkar, who was provisionally recommended for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) through the Civil Services Examination of 2022, is under investigation for allegedly forging disability certificates.

This alleged forgery is said to have been used to gain advantages in the examination process. The UPSC’s decision to file a case comes after a thorough investigation revealed that Khedkar may have engaged in multiple fraudulent activities.

According to the UPSC, the investigation uncovered that Khedkar had used false information to exceed the permissible number of attempts allowed under the examination rules.

The commission’s statement indicates that Khedkar allegedly changed various personal details, including her name, her parents' names, her photograph, signature, email ID, mobile number, and address. These changes were reportedly made to disguise her identity and gain an unfair advantage in the examination process.

In light of these findings, the UPSC has taken a series of actions against Khedkar. This includes filing a First Information Report (FIR) with the police and issuing a Show Cause Notice (SCN). The SCN seeks to cancel her candidature for the Civil Services Examination of 2022 and considers debarring her from future examinations or selections. This move underscores the UPSC’s commitment to upholding the rules and ensuring that all candidates are treated fairly and with integrity.

The UPSC’s statement emphasised that it adheres strictly to its constitutional mandate and conducts its examinations with the highest level of diligence. The commission stressed that it has implemented measures to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of the examination process, ensuring that all procedures are followed correctly and without compromise.

The case against Khedkar has also led to further developments. On July 18, Khedkar was summoned by the Pune Police to provide a statement regarding the allegations against her.

This step follows a harassment case Khedkar had previously filed against Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase. Diwase had reported Khedkar’s alleged misuse of power to the Maharashtra government, leading to additional scrutiny and legal action.

The situation highlights the ongoing efforts by the UPSC to address any potential issues of misconduct and maintain the fairness of its examination process. The commission’s proactive measures in investigating and addressing these allegations demonstrate its commitment to ensuring that all candidates compete on a level playing field.

The outcome of this case will be closely watched, as it will have significant implications for the credibility of the examination process and the integrity of future civil service selections.

The UPSC’s actions against Puja Khedkar reflect its dedication to preserving the fairness and integrity of the Civil Services Examination. By taking legal action and seeking to cancel her candidature, the commission aims to uphold the standards of the examination and ensure that all candidates are subject to the same rules and scrutiny. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to examination rules and the consequences of attempting to undermine the process.
