The United States under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby has concluded his visit to India, where he discussed key elements of the National Defence Strategy 2026 with senior Indian officials to advance President Donald Trump’s “Peace through Strength” agenda.
During his stay, Colby met with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
He also co-chaired the US-India Defence Policy Group meeting with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The discussions focused on advancing the framework for a deeper US-India defence partnership, building on the agreement signed in 2025 by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
As key partners in multinational security arrangements with the United States and other Western nations, India and the US are expected to expand cooperation on information sharing and regional and global issues, as well as defence industrial and science and technology collaboration.
Colby also held consultations with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and the Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
Before concluding his visit, the under secretary delivered a speech at the Ananta Centre in New Delhi, highlighting the enduring strength of the India-US partnership and outlining a framework to guide future defence and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
