President Droupadi Murmu has approved appointment of renowned Advocate Utsav Bains as Counsel to Government of India in the Supreme Court of India. A formal order to this effect was issued on Friday November 29 following which his assumed his new role in the legal fraternity.
The new responsibility will see Utsav Bains advocating the matters related to Union government in the Apex Court. He has been entrusted this responsibility of the coveted post in view of his excellence and outstanding performance in the legal field seen consistently. Prior to this NHAI had appointed him in Supreme Court and Delhi High Court as Counsel in the legal matters.
With an illustrious career, Utsav Bains has also served as the Special Public Prosecutor for NCB at Delhi High Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court. Apart from counsel for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) before the Apex Court, he has also worked for the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) for the Delhi High Court and Chandigarh Housing Board for Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Bains gained recognition for representing victims in high-profile anti-terror cases.His notable cases include the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, the 1993 Bombay Bomb Blast, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, and the case involving Bitta Karate, accused of the murders of Kashmiri Pandits. Bains, an alumnus of Panjab University, hails from a distinguished legal family.
A Panjab University alumnus, Bains is the grandson of the late Justice Ajit Singh Bains of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the son of senior advocate and renowned criminal lawyer, Rajvinder Singh Bains. He was visiting researcher at Harvard Law School in 2013-14.
