Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently reaffirmed the state’s commitment to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) soon, stressing that the law is not intended to trouble or harass anyone.
He made this statement during the Civil Felicitation Ceremony held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Ground in Udham Singh Nagar district’s Kichha area. Dhami explained that the people of Uttarakhand had supported the idea of UCC through their votes during the 2022 assembly elections, and now the state government is determined to follow through on that commitment.
Dhami further elaborated on several development projects underway in the state. One of the most significant among them is the construction of an international-level airport in Pantnagar.
The state has transferred 850 acres of land to the Government of India for this purpose. This new airport is expected to boost connectivity and economic growth in the region, bringing more opportunities for trade, tourism, and development.
Additionally, Dhami visited the site of the under-construction All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the Kichha area, which had been a long-standing demand from the local population.
According to Dhami, this project received serious attention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and work on the hospital is progressing rapidly. Once completed, the AIIMS facility will bring much-needed healthcare services to the region, addressing the healthcare needs of residents and easing the burden on other medical institutions in the state.
The Chief Minister emphasised that the state government is working under the principle of "resolution without any alternative," aiming to transform Uttarakhand into one of the most developed states in India.
He also pointed out that the government is striving to strike a balance between ecological preservation and economic growth. One of the key focuses of his administration is ensuring that local people, especially the youth, have access to employment opportunities within the state itself, so they do not need to seek jobs outside Uttarakhand.
In his speech, Dhami expressed gratitude to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership the State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (SIDCUL) was established in key locations like Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, and Dehradun.
The initiative played a significant role in boosting industrial development in these areas. Dhami noted that, under the current leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state's development has gained momentum, with major projects and initiatives beginning to materialise.
Furthermore, CM Dhami emphasised the importance of the investments made during the Global Investors Summit, which was organised last year. These investments are now starting to bear fruit, and the state is moving forward in its goal of balancing both ecological concerns and economic development.
He envisions a future where the people of Uttarakhand have the opportunity to work and prosper within their own state, without feeling the need to migrate to other places in search of better prospects.
In addition to these significant projects, the Chief Minister also highlighted the government's plans to introduce a new land law in the near future. While details about this law were not fully disclosed, the announcement suggests that the state is working to address land-related issues, likely focusing on improving regulations surrounding land use, ownership, and development.
