As the Kanwar Yatra 2024 approaches, preparations in Uttarakhand are in full swing to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the festival. Scheduled to start on Monday, the event sees the deployment of over 5,500 police personnel to manage the large influx of devotees.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haridwar, Parmendra Dobhal, has outlined the extensive security measures in place. The entire Kanwar Mela area has been meticulously divided into 14 super zones and 35 zones to enhance crowd management and ensure safety.

In addition to the zone-wise division, the police have also implemented a comprehensive route diversion plan to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the festival.

According to SSP Dobhal, police officers have been assigned to 132 sectors across the area. This deployment includes both central security forces and local police officers, all coordinated to maintain order and manage the heavy crowds expected. The rapid action force (RAF) and other specialised units are also stationed in Haridwar to bolster security measures.

The Uttar Pradesh Police have also completed their preparations for the Shravan Shivratri festival, which coincides with the Kanwar Yatra. ASP Manish Kumar Mishra stated that a final phase meeting had been conducted to ensure all aspects of the festival, including security, cleanliness, and other arrangements, were thoroughly discussed and addressed. This meeting included officers from neighbouring districts, emphasising the collaborative effort to ensure the festival's success.

Shravan Shivratri, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a significant Hindu festival observed during the month of Saawan. Devotees across the country participate in various rituals and practices, including fasting and temple visits.

The month of Shravan is especially notable for the Kanwar Yatra, where devotees carry holy Ganga water and offer it to Lord Shiva as part of their religious observance.

The festival is marked by fervent celebrations and is especially prominent in North Indian states such as Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. Temples throughout these regions conduct special pujas and Shiva darshan, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the festival.

Authorities are confident that the extensive preparations and security arrangements will contribute to a smooth and peaceful celebration of Shravan Shivratri.

With comprehensive planning and coordination, the state is set to handle the large-scale event with efficiency and care, ensuring that devotees can participate in the festivities safely and comfortably.
