Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, the prime accused in the fatal Vadodara car crash that claimed the life of a woman, was brought to the accident site for a crime scene recreation. During the process, he was seen limping and clutching his ears, appearing visibly uncomfortable.
A video clip released by news agency showed the 23-year-old struggling to walk as he was escorted by police to the location where the tragic incident occurred.
The accident took place in the early hours of 14 March, when Chaurasia, reportedly driving a speeding vehicle, crashed into a two-wheeler.
The impact resulted in the death of a woman and left eight others injured. The Vadodara police confirmed these details on Saturday as investigations into the case continue.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
While Chaurasia remains in police custody, Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar revealed that more than three vehicles were involved in the incident. Among them were two active vehicles and an electric vehicle (EV).
The Gujarat police have registered a case against the accused under the Motor Vehicles Act, along with other legal provisions. A forensic team is actively gathering evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
"We have filed a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, in addition to sections under the Motor Vehicles Act. Police and forensic teams are compiling physical and material evidence," a police official stated.
Further investigation revealed that Chaurasia was not alone in the car at the time of the accident. Another individual, identified as Pranshu Chauhan, was present in the vehicle.
To determine whether they were under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicants, authorities have collected their blood samples.
"Police are conducting a thorough investigation. We will prosecute the accused with all available physical, scientific, and forensic evidence. In this tragic accident, eight people sustained injuries, one woman lost her life, and seven others are undergoing treatment," Commissioner Komar said.
Accused Denies Alcohol Consumption
Despite the police registering a case of drink driving, Chaurasia has denied consuming alcohol on the night of the accident. He claimed that he had attended a Holika Dahan celebration but did not take part in any party or drinking session.
The accused insisted that he was driving at a speed of 50 kmph at the time of the accident. He also expressed a desire to meet the family of the deceased, acknowledging responsibility for the incident.
Meanwhile, the police continue to recover crucial evidence from the scene and are closely tracking the movements of Chaurasia’s co-passenger. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities piece together the events leading up to the fatal crash.
