In a resounding tribute to India’s timeless national song, as the nation marked a momentous occasion while celebrating 150 years of Vande Matram, UT of J&K has achieved proud distinction of being adjudged on 2nd best position in terms of number of events organized as also an overwhelming participation of it citizens with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
The Vande Matram song which once again gave a stirring call that has inspired generations and kindled an enduring spirit of patriotism across the country, people of J&K took lead in many ways by way of organizing as many commemorative events to mark 150 years . Vande Mataram was written by Bankimchandra Chatterji on Akshaya Navami, November 7 in 1875. It was first published in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his novel Anandamath.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been adjudged leading as the second best among all the States and Union Territories, while Kishtwar district as third best among all the districts of the country in terms of numbers of people participating in the commemorative events organised to celebrate the 150th year of the Vande Mataram Song.
Various events in the form of seminars, exhibitions, musical renditions, and public readings have been proposed across the country by different Ministries, institutions, cultural bodies, and educational centres to honour the enduring legacy of Vande Mataram—the song of unity, resistance, and national pride composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.These programmes are scheduled in four phases—Phase I from November 7-14, 2025, Phase II from January 19-26, 2026, Phase III from August 7-15, 2026, and Phase IV from November 1-7, 2026.
According to the Union Ministry of Culture’s official website, which records participation figures for these events, Uttar Pradesh is leading with 1,204,438 participants in Phase I, followed by Jammu and Kashmir with 706,915.Bihar has recorded 250,682 participants so far, Maharashtra 236,199, Delhi 139,477, Andhra Pradesh 105,199, Chhattisgarh 90,445, Rajasthan 84,889, Haryana 69,394 and Uttarakhand 68,140.
Among districts, Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest 1,000,058 participants, followed by Mumbai with 191,359. Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir stood third with 188,333 participants, followed by Srinagar with 132,212.Baramulla district in north Kashmir recorded 93,683 participants, followed by Kulgam in south Kashmir with 66, 251, and Balrampur Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh with 39,665. New Delhi recorded 37,736 participants, Anantnag 36,686 and Jammu 35,040.
Overall, the 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir reported the participation of 675 schools, 57 colleges, and 24 Ministries across 3, 812 commemorative events, with 3, 518 Vande Mataram renditions registered so far.Country-wide, the 605 districts in 35 States and Union Territories reported the participation of 4,144 schools, 299 colleges, and 46 Ministries across 11, 738 commemorative events, with 87,518 Vande Mataram renditions registered.
