Preparations are in full swing at the Ganga Ghats in Varanasi for the grand celebration of Dev Deepawali, which will be observed on November 5, coinciding with Kartik Poornima.
 
At Dashashwamedh Ghat, elaborate arrangements are underway as the sacred city prepares to light up in divine splendour.
 
Sushant Mishra, organiser of the Ganga Maha Aarti, said that the Ganga Seva Nidhi organises a special Maha Aarti of Goddess Ganga once a year during Dev Deepawali. The ritual will be performed by twenty-one Brahmins and forty-two dev kanayas.
 
Mishra told ANI that the Dashashwamedh Ghat is being adorned with around twenty-one quintals of flower garlands, while approximately fifty-one thousand lamps will illuminate the riverfront during the celebration.
 
“At Dashashwamedh Ghat, Ganga Seva Nidhi organises the Maha Aarti of Goddess Ganga once a year. It is performed by twenty-one Brahmins and forty-two dev kanayas. The ghat is being decorated with approximately twenty-one quintals of flower garlands, and fifty-one thousand lamps will be lit,” he said.
 
The Dev Deepawali celebration, regarded as the “Diwali of the Gods”, marks the occasion when the gods are believed to descend to Earth to bathe in the Ganga. The festival attracts lakhs of devotees and tourists from across India and abroad, who gather to witness the breathtaking spectacle of the illuminated ghats.
 
Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S. Rajalingam said that this year’s Dev Deepawali celebrations will feature a laser show and cultural performances at Raj Ghat.

“People have already started looking forward to it. This year too, Dev Deepawali will be organised. There will also be a laser show here like last year. There will be a performance at Raj Ghat featuring many artists. We have also held meetings with committees,” Rajalingam said.
 
As Kashi readies itself for Dev Deepawali, the ongoing Ganga Mahotsav is adding to the festive atmosphere in the city. The cultural festival, being held from November 1 to 4, is showcasing the talent of several renowned artists through daily performances and inaugurations by dignitaries.
 
Among the performers are Pandit Mata Prasad Mishra, Pandit Ravishankar Mishra, Diwakar Kashyap, Prabhakar Kashyap, Professor Pandit Sahitya Nagar, Pandit Santosh Nahar, Padmashree Geeta Chandran, Vidushi Kavita Dwivedi, Padmashree Malini Awasthi, Shubhankar Dey, Rahul Rohit Mishra, and Hansraj Raghuvanshi.
 
Meanwhile, more than 10 lakh diyas will illuminate the crescent-shaped ghats of Varanasi on November 5, creating a mesmerising view along the sacred river. According to officials, among these, one lakh eco-friendly lamps made from cow dung will add a sustainable and traditional element to the celebration.
 
The city of Varanasi, with its timeless spiritual charm, is set to shine brighter than ever as over 10.10 lakh lamps light up the ghats, transforming the holy city into a radiant symbol of faith, devotion, and heritage.
