A video has emerged showing a man walking through a meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, as gunshots ring out and the screams of people are heard in the background.

News Arena Network - Srinagar - UPDATED: April 22, 2025, 10:26 PM - 2 min read

The man was strolling through the picturesque Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, when gunshots rang out, followed by the screams of terrified people.

A disturbing video has emerged showing a man walking through the scenic Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, just moments before a brutal terror attack unfolded. In the video, the man is seen calmly walking when, suddenly, gunshots and the screams of terrified people echo in the background.

In another video, the survivor shared his harrowing account of the attack, revealing that he narrowly escaped death. He expressed his gratitude for surviving and prayed for the safety of others who were caught in the crossfire.

“We thought it was firecrackers when we heard two to three rounds. When we heard people screaming, we ran for our lives,” he said, still shaken by the experience.

The survivor went on to explain that he initially mistook the sound of gunshots for firecrackers. It was only when the chaos escalated, and people began screaming in terror, that he realized the severity of the situation and fled for his life.

When asked about the presence of security forces at the scene, the man admitted he didn’t pay much attention in the heat of the moment as he focused on escaping. However, his friend, who was with him during the attack, mentioned that he did not notice any security personnel in the vicinity.

“Such an attack has never happened here before. This is probably the first time that such an attack has occurred. We never imagined something like this would happen, especially since the atmosphere has always been peaceful. It is truly unfortunate,” the survivor said.

His friend, still visibly shaken, recalled the terror they faced. “We were sitting in the meadow with a horseman. Suddenly, we heard gunshots. After a few rounds, we realized it was a terror attack and I hid behind a tree. In front of us, they killed a woman,” he added, his voice trembling.

Details of the Attack

The terror attack, one of the most violent in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, took place around 2:30 PM on Tuesday. A group of terrorists, dressed in military fatigues, ambushed a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam, located about 5 kilometers from the town.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots and witnessing the chaos that followed. Bodies were seen strewn across the ground, and women were heard crying in distress as locals rushed to assist the victims. One eyewitness described how the gunmen fired on tourists at close range, causing injuries to many.

The open space of the meadow offered no shelter, and as the gunfire rang out, tourists scrambled to find cover. But the vast, open landscape left them with nowhere to hide.

The meadow, often referred to as "mini Switzerland" due to its breathtaking beauty, was teeming with tourists enjoying pony rides, eating at outdoor eateries, or simply taking in the serene views when the attack took place. The attackers, believed to be armed militants, opened fire indiscriminately at the tourists, triggering panic among the unsuspecting crowd.

Response and Aftermath

Following the attack, security forces quickly cordoned off the area, launching an anti-terrorism operation to track down the assailants. Meanwhile, Pahalgam, once bustling with tourists, fell into eerie silence as the situation unfolded.

The Resistance Front, a local militant group linked to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.

In response to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia, held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During their discussion, Modi directed that all necessary measures be taken to address the situation. He also instructed Shah to visit the site to assess the situation firsthand.

Subsequently, Amit Shah convened a high-level security meeting in New Delhi before flying to Srinagar for a review meeting on the security situation in Pahalgam.

On X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi vowed that the attackers would be held accountable. “The perpetrators of this attack will not be spared,” he stated, sending a clear message of resolve in the face of such violence.

The attack has left the region in shock, with both locals and tourists reeling from the violence that shattered the peaceful atmosphere of Pahalgam’s iconic Baisaran meadow. Authorities continue to investigate the incident as the nation mourns the victims and the terror that has once again gripped Kashmir.
