National Security Advisor Ajit Doval meets Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday, India's National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval observed an "upward trend" in the relationship between the two countries since his last visit to Beijing.

He specifically noted that "borders have been quiet" and that there has been "peace and tranquility." Doval's last visit to Beijing was for the 23rd Meeting of the Special Representatives (SRs) of India and China on December 18, 2024.

Wang Yi is currently in Delhi for a visit widely viewed as part of ongoing efforts to mend the relationship between the two nations, which soured following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020.

In his opening remarks at the 24th meeting of the Special Representatives, Doval stated, "...There has been an upward trend. Borders have been quiet. There has been peace and tranquility. Our bilateral engagements have been more substantial. And we are most grateful to our leaders who, in Kazan last October, were able to set a new trend, and we have profited a lot since then."

He added that "the new environment that has been created has helped us in moving ahead in the various areas that we are working on."

Doval expressed his hope that, like the previous one, this 24th Special Representative Level Talks would be equally successful. He also highlighted the importance of these talks, noting, "Our Prime Minister will be visiting for the SCO Summit shortly and therefore, I think that these SR-level talks assume a very special importance."

In response, Wang Yi conveyed his pleasure in meeting Doval again in New Delhi for this round of talks. He acknowledged that the setbacks experienced by both countries in recent years were "not in the interests of the people of our two countries."

Speaking in Mandarin, Wang Yi recalled the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi in Kazan last October, stating that it "pointed the direction for the development of our bilateral relations and provided impetus for the proper settlement of the boundary question."

Both Doval and Wang Yi lead the Special Representatives dialogue mechanism, which is tasked with resolving the long-standing border dispute along the 3,488 km Line of Actual Control (LAC).
