Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Assembly polls, the first phase of which is scheduled for September 18, MP Lok Sabha Mian Altaf Larvi of the National Conference claimed there was a wave in the UT in favour of his party.
Addressing reporters, Mian Altaf said, sentiments “are in our favour. When I entered the area, from Khawas to here, people were on the streets supporting us. I am confident this is already ours.”
“We will campaign in all Assembly constituencies of Rajouri, and we will say whatever is needed. People are supporting us,” he added.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi said on Saturday that the upcoming elections in J&K are a fight between the three dynasties and the youth of the UT.
He mentioned Congress, the National Conference (NC), and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the three dynasties whose corrupt practices “hollowed out” and “destroyed” Jammu and Kashmir.
“This year, the elections to the Jammu Kashmir assembly are going to be held between the dynasties and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi said in his first rally in Doda.
Responding to the PM’s statement, NC leader Omar Abdullah said, “he (PM) should focus on the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir” and stop misleading people on dynastic politics.”
J&K is heading for elections after a gap of ten years, the last polls were held in 2014. The region since post-2018 has been under Governor's Rule.
These elections are considered the beginning of a new chapter in the region's long controversial history, the erstwhile state is now a UT since it was bifurcated by the Central government in 2019.
According to ECI data, 88.06 lakh eligible voters of Jammu and Kashmir, excluding Ladakh, will vote in three phases in the upcoming assembly elections.
These upcoming elections will be the first in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
