“Whatever happens, we are prepared for any eventuality,” said the Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh. The statement came in response to a question asked regarding US President Donald Trump’s claims of Pakistan conducting a ‘secret nuclear test’.
In conversation with a media house, the Defence Minister said, “Those who want to test, let them; how can we stop them?”
On being asked whether India would file a suit if Trump’s claims are true, Rajnath said, “Let’s first see if they do it.”
Though, these ‘test claims’ have been denied by Pakistan’s senior official, reaffirming its commitment to restraint despite not being a signatory to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
The Defence Minister’s remarks follow President Trump's announcement that the US would restart nuclear weapons tests after a 30-year pause. Trump cited recent tests by "other countries," arguing that the United States should not be the only nation refraining from testing while others continue underground trials. Citing an example of the tests, the US President mentioned Pakistan.
Speaking on this earlier, Indian MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal cited, “Clandestine and illegal nuclear activities are in keeping with Pakistan’s history, that is centered around decades of smuggling, export control violations, secret partnerships, AQ Khan network and further proliferation.”
