What routes to avoid ahead of PM Modi's Chandigarh visit today?

Traffic advisory issued for PM Modi's Chandigarh visit today as he launches projects worth over Rs 4,700 crore amid tight security.


Punjab's Mohali traffic police have issued a fresh traffic advisory ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state capital today. The restriction on traffic movement will remain in force from 12 noon to 3 pm. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for and dedicate to the nation various development projects worth over Rs 4,700 crore in Chandigarh, spanning healthcare, education, and road infrastructure. He will inaugurate the Advanced Mother and Child Centre and the Advanced Neurosciences Centre at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Traffic moving from and to Chandigarh via Karoran/Forest Hills and from Karoran/Forest Hills towards Chandigarh will be diverted through Nada Road/Bridge. Also, traffic moving between Chandigarh Lake and PEC (Punjab Engineering College) University towards Nayagaon will be diverted via Kaimbwala Road.

Besides, all routes from PGIMER/PEC (Punjab Engineering College) University towards Nayagaon and heavy traffic movement will also remain restricted during this period, officials said. 
 

The district police have urged people and travellers to follow the designated traffic diversions and use alternate routes to reach their respective destinations. Over 18 police checkpoints, including 9 interstate border check posts, were activated in Panchkula. Additional deployment of police personnel and security forces at all 18 checkpoints and nine interstate border check posts has been mobilised ahead of the high-profile visit.
 
 
Besides this, the prime minister is scheduled to flag off India’s first Hydrogen train between Jind and Sonipat. The train is among the world's longest and most powerful hydrogen trains. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra, dedicated to the Legacy of Sikh Gurus and Sikh Heritage.
 
 
“PM to dedicate to the nation fully access-controlled Packages 1 to 6 of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. He will further inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of rail and road infrastructure projects worth over Rs 5,470 crore in Jalandhar,” said an official statement.

Officials said everything and everyone is being checked thoroughly, adding that those travelling to important places like hospitals and for other important work can consider leaving early. Special surveillance is being maintained in the border areas, and every vehicle is being inspected carefully to prevent any suspicious activity, they said.

Panchkula, which sits at a multi-state border crossing, including with Chandigarh, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, remains one of the most important entry and exit points. Security forces have been advised to remain alert and cautious during the VVIP visit.
