Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the Election Commission (EC) of acting only after he flagged “vote theft” in Karnataka’s Aland assembly constituency, pressing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for evidence to be handed to the state CID.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha cited media reports highlighting the EC’s new Aadhar-based ‘e-sign’ feature, which mandates verification for addition or deletion of voters. He argued the mechanism appeared to be implemented belatedly.
“Gyanesh ji, we caught the theft and only then did you remember to put a lock, now we'll catch the thieves too. So tell us, when are you going to give the evidence to CID?” Gandhi posted on X.

The Congress leader had earlier alleged attempts to cancel multiple votes in Aland using software manipulation, prompting the Karnataka CID to register an FIR and investigate what he termed a “vote-theft”.
Gandhi has urged the EC to share details of those implicated to enable the CID to pursue the matter.
EC officials, however, have maintained that the introduction of the e-sign verification system was not a direct response to the Aland constituency controversy.
