The 34-year-old Indian Air Force officer, Wing Commander Namansh Syal, lost his life in a deadly Tejas fighter jet crash on Friday afternoon during a demo flying at the Dubai Air Show.
As soon as the videos of the incident surfaced on the internet, condolences started pouring in for the officer who died representing his country, India. The cause of the incident is yet to be identified.
Syal comes from a family with a military background, and hails from Himachal Pradesh’s Patiyalkar village in the Kangra district. His wife is also an officer serving the Indian Air Force. Syal’s father is retired officer, Jagarnath Syal, who once served the Indian Army and is now working as a principal.
Syal is survived by his wife, six-year-old daughter, and parents. It is learnt that his parents are currently residing at the Sulur Air Force Station near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, while his wife is in Kolkata for a course.
Syal is an alumnus of Sainik School, Sujanpur Tira, in Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh.
There are reports that Syal was due for a promotion.
From the Defence Minister, CDS, political leaders, to veterans, everybody offered their deepest sympathies and prayers for the family, while the locals of Syal's ancestral village remembered him as a brilliant and kind soul.
