A thick layer of fog continued to shroud North India on Tuesday as the region grappled with severe cold conditions. In Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya, both locals and tourists praised the winter arrangements, noting that they were well-prepared to deal with the chilly weather.
“It is very cold right now, but the arrangements made are very good. We are sitting near bonfires to keep ourselves warm,” said a local, speaking to the media.
Ratan Jaiswal, a tourist visiting from Prayagraj, commended the services in Ayodhya. “It is very cold here in Ramnagari. We even took a dip in the holy river. The arrangements made here are very good, and we are not feeling the shortage of anything,” he said.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature recorded in Ayodhya was nine degrees Celsius. Despite the cold, devotees continued to gather at the Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj.
Amit Kumar, a tourist, noted that while the weather was harsh, it did not deter visitors from performing religious rituals. “It has been extremely cold here, yet we have come to pray and also took a dip in the holy river. We brought all the required clothing we needed,” Kumar talked the media.
Another tourist, Vinod, praised the government for the improvements made in preparation for the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela. “The Maha Kumbh Mela is about to start here, and the government has made very good arrangements. They have improved since last year,” he said.
In Prayagraj, the minimum temperature was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, dense fog enveloped several cities, causing near-zero visibility in some areas. Visuals from Jaipur showed people sitting near bonfires to combat the cold. The minimum temperature recorded in Jaipur was 11 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
Delhi also experienced chilly conditions, with the IMD recording a minimum temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius. The Met Department forecasted a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius for the day, with the maximum temperature anticipated to reach around 19 degrees Celsius.
The city remained under a blanket of “dense fog” throughout the day.
As winter persists, the arrangements made at religious sites like Ayodhya and Prayagraj have been widely appreciated, ensuring that devotees can participate in rituals and ceremonies comfortably despite the challenging weather conditions.
