The Delhi Police, in its ongoing investigation into the doctored video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has received crucial information from social media platform X.
According to police sources, the IP address traced to Telangana indicates the location from where the video was first uploaded on social media.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged on April 28, leading to the prompt registration of an FIR the same day.
The FIR highlighted the circulation of manipulated videos on Facebook and Twitter (now X), aimed at spreading misleading information and potentially inciting disharmony among communities.
In the course of the probe, approximately 24 individuals were summoned by the police, including Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with others from Telangana, Jharkhand, Nagaland Congress party, and the Samajwadi Party.
A senior police official revealed that a query was sent to social media platform X, soliciting details of the exact IP address from which the video originated.
“The investigation officer, in the meantime, sent a query to X, asking them to share the exact IP address, from where the video was uploaded for the first time. They have shared a landline IP address of the originator,” the senior police officer said.
The platform responded with a landline IP address, pinpointing the initial uploader's location.
Efforts to apprehend four members of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee - Shiva Kumar Ambala, Asma Tasleem, Satish Manne, and Naveen Pettem - were temporarily stalled when it was discovered that the Telangana Police had already detained them based on an FIR registered on April 27.
Subsequently, the Delhi Police is considering serving a notice under Section 41 of the CrPC to summon the suspects and may issue non-bailable warrants against them if necessary.
Regarding Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's involvement, his advocate communicated to the Delhi Police that Reddy denied any role in the creation or dissemination of the video. The lawyer affirmed that Reddy was unaware of the video's origin or creator.
“Reddy’s lawyer gave us a statement on behalf of the Chief Minister that he had no role in posting or creating the video and that he did not have information regarding who created the video,” an officer said.
